Happy Halloween!!

Trick or treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat! :-D
McKayla was Rapunzel, complete with long flowing hair. I have to admit she looked a little odd with blonde hair LOL.

We took her to Hamilton Place Mall for trick or treating. It's kinda sad that we can't do the traditional neighborhood walk, but I guess that's life. She thoroughly enjoyed herself and was amazed that people knew who she was. :-) Meme took us, as my Jeep is still out of commission and Grandpa tagged along.

North Carolina Trip

Last Tuesday (Oct. 23rd) John, McKayla, Mom and I (Chris couldn't go b/c of school and he was with his dad) headed to NC to visit my grandparents. It was McKayla's first visit to their house and her first long trip period. I had been trying for months to get up there but John's work schedule made it damn near impossible. Luckily, he had taken that particular week off so I could go to the Dane Nationals in KS and since I couldn't make it for that, it seemed perfect to go to NC.
Granted, I've lived in TN (and pretty much the same area) my whole life so I could be somewhat biased, but I love it here. The mountains are absolutely breathtaking, awe-inspiring and humbling. Seeing them tower of you with their majesty just sends chills down my spine. They're especially beautiful in the fall. God's paintbrush at it's finest. Sadly, I couldn't capture the artwork.

We arrived about 6:30 Tuesday evening. It's normally about a 6 hour trip but we made it in …

Pet Portraits

I mentioned here that a friend of mine does digitally hand-painted portraits. She also does other 'styles' and did 2 of Rio for me.

This is the original picture she used:

And these are the two altered ones.

I'm absolutely IN LOVE and can't wait to get her to do some more for me.

As a child, I spent hours looking up at the clouds and finding different formations. Seeing animals and objects of all sorts. It's amazing what you'll "find" if you just let your imagination run wild.

I still do shape searching in the clouds, just not as often. Even rarer, do I get pictures of what *I* see in them.

On our trip home Friday from North Carolina, I saw several things in the clouds and thought I'd share with you. What do YOU see in them?

Recycled Horseshoes

We just got home from a mini-vacation visiting my Grandparents in North Carolina. I'm working on that post but it may take a bit as I had other things happen as a result of the trip. I just wanted to post something so y'all didn't think I'd disappeared. :-) I received these pictures in an email and just had to share them! They are amazing!

Tom Hill is a self-taught sculptor who creates life-size sculptures using nothing but recycled horseshoes.

How I roll!!

Sometimes I plan things and sometimes I just fly by the seat of my pants.
Saturday, I decided to fly.........rollercoaster style!!!
Kathleen (my nephew's girlfriend) had bought Season Passes to Six Flags over Georgia for her, my sis-in-law and my brother-in-law as a birthday gift for them. They went a month or so ago but were already figuring out when they could go again.
This past weekend was Six Flag's Fright Fest and both being avid Halloweeners, they wanted to go. Leslie and I were talking Saturday about plans for her to watch the critters while we took a trip to my grandparents house and mentioned they were going that afternoon when Kathleen got off from work. I, of course, said that I wanted to go with them and started brainstorming on how I could make it. Couldn't use my brother-in-laws pass as it had his picture on it. I couldn't afford the $47 to spend just a few hours there, so it seemed hopeless. Then, Leslie mentioned how Kathleen had afforded their ticket…

Bodyform Lies To Men!!

Richard discovered the hard way how a maxipad company had lied to him about a woman's period. His comment on their page was quite funny but Bodyform's response was brilliant!
*** Disclaimer! NOT for the easily offended ***
Richard Neill posted on Bodyform's Facebook Page: Hi, as a man I must ask why you have lied to us for all these years. As a child I watched your advertisement with interest as to how at this wonderful time of the month that the female gets to enjoy so many things, I felt a little jealous. I mean bike riding, rollercoasters, dancing, parachuting, why couldn't I get to enjoy this time of joy and 'blue water' and wings !! Dam my penis!! Then I got a girlfriend, was so happy and couldn't wait for this joyus adventurous time of the month to lied!!! There was no joy, no extreme sports, no blue water spilling over wings and no rocking soundtrack oh no no no. Instead I had to fight against every male urge I had to resist screaming w…

I Came, I Saw

Oh it was sooo much fun!!! So many great vendors, rescues, people and dogs!
We got there about 10 (an hour earlier than I was shooting for.....I was actually early for once!!! LOL) and stayed till about 2.
First was the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America sung by Nicholas Hickman. Now let me tell y'all something about this boy: he had one ROCKING VOICE!!! He sang both songs superbly and I had chills and actual tears during the entire performance. Absolutely beautiful!
Then came the Spooky Pooch Parade, led by Mirabelle and her servants, I mean owners. :-

Birthday Party Fun

Today was McKayla's cousin, LyAnna's, birthday party. It was a big event for Ly b/c it was her first party that she had school friends she could invite.

John took McKayla to the party b/c I was at Bark in the Park. I made it in time to watch McKayla play the arcade games (part of the party package included $5 worth of tokens for each child).

I think she had fun. What do you think? ;-)

Oh the excitement!!

If y'all couldn't already tell, I'm sooo excited about Bark in the Park tomorrow! :-D

Jeep is packed with plastic bags to donate to the dog park for waste bags. Rio's stuff is ready to go. I also got his costume today and tried it on him....think it's gonna work, altho I have one more thing I want to try out after McKayla goes to bed....we'll see how that works out. Hopefully he won't act like a complete fool during the Costume Contest. LOL

Looking forward to meeting some people I've only chatted on the phone with or on FB. Also looking forward to helping out my rescue buddies show off their adoptable dogs. I plan on getting there about 11 or so and staying till almost 3....McKayla has a birthday party to go to tomorrow and John's taking her but he has to go to work at 4, so I'll have to pick her up.

Now to get McKayla to bed, work on the last piece of Rio's costume and then get my brain to shut up so I can go to sleep. LOL

Catch y'all l…

Duke ~ My First Love

Duke was my first foster and the one that cemented my need to be owned by a Dane.

I had wanted a Dane for years. Thought they were such beautiful animals, but I didn't think I had enough room for one. Told myself that one day I would have one. I gave up on that dream for awhile, but I always kept it in the back of my mind. Then, several years ago, I joined a Dane forum and the bug bit me even harder then. I started seeing all of the beautiful Danes and hearing all their wonderful stories. So, I started searching the web, buying books, checking classifieds for Danes needing homes, contacting shelters and doing everything I could think of. Hubby wasn't too keen on the idea and told me we needed to wait, but I was relentless, impatient and stubborn.
I found this on Nov. 2009. "Free male to a good home. Good guard dog." I flipped! I just knew the chances of some weirdo snatching him up to be a junk yard dog were pretty good. We weren't ready for another dog, let alo…

I know cell phones are for TALKING and texting, but I use mine for so much more. I Facebook, I Google and I blog (as I am doing now). My cell phone is my home phone, and it's my only link to the 'real world' some days. Currently it also serves as my wireless connection to my laptop.

Why am I telling you all this? B/c I just need to vent.

We went today to look at getting a new phone as I *thought* we were at our early upgrade and using the 'New Every Two' incentive, I could get a $100 off a new phone.

Nope, not happening.

Instead, what they tell me is that the program ended Jan 2011, so we're not eligible AND if I upgrade, I LOSE my unlimited data.

We can, however, add a third phone to our Family Share Plan at about $15 a month more and that somehow allows us to BOTH upgrade and keep our unlimited data usage.

Paying $15 a month for a phone we'd hardly use seems a waste BUT it could come in handy, McKayla could use it to talk to Mema or Grandpa or whoever sh…

Introducing Choco

Choco is 13 week old red-nosed Pit Bull. He was found as a stray, but luckily he was found before something happened to him. (You can only guess the fate of a stray Pit Bull puppy.....sad really.)
I've wanted to foster for quite some time, but was afraid to. You see, Katie isn't the friendliest with adult dogs and that's mainly what needs fostering. I figured we could foster puppies, as she's fine with them. So, I started contacting the local rescues around me and filling out foster applications. Most told me that they didn't have any puppies at the moment, so I figured it'd be awhile. Then I happened across Pit Happens FB page and there was this adorable little red nose boy. He wasn't actually in custody of Pit Happens at the time (mainly b/c Tania says that puppy fosters are hard to find......frankly, I find that shocking) but I commented anyway and told her I was willing to foster him.

Word Play

My family is notorious for messing up words or making up our own. I thought it might be fun to make a list of sorts to showcase them all.

Popping The Mush ~
Years ago, when my mom worked at the Quality Shopper (a local newspaper), she'd also clean the offices after hours to make some extra money. At the time, we were going to the walking track after work. On this particular evening, I was helping her and asked if we could go when we got done. She looked at me and said "Jennifer, I'm tired. I've been popping the mush all day and I just want to go home!"

Embryo's ~
My brother was going to start playing soccer and told my parents that he needed a pair of embryo's for practice.

Ides Are Rosey ~
As all teenagers are prone to have bouts of melodramatic actions, I've had my fair share. On this particular time, I was mad at my mom (reasons unknown now) and went storming out of the house, hell bent on running …

I hate temper tantrums. Who does?! If you say you do, you're lying through your teeth. They're ear-splitting, nerve-racking, headache-pounding, wanna-pop-a-pill, pull-your-hair-out and scream, annoying!

McKayla has these fits occasionally (luckily they don't happen too often, otherwise I wouldn't be blogging b/c I don't think they allow computer access in the mental hospitals). She gets almost seizure like in that it seems she can't control herself. She's crying and screaming and repeating the same thing over and over and over again. "MOM!! MOM!! MOM!! MOM!! I WANT YOU TO COME HERE!!! I WANT YOU TO COME HERE!! I WANT YOU TO COME HERE!!" (and she's right in front of you) Yeah, you get the picture of my enjoyment when these occur.

What makes it even more frustrating is that you don't know how to fix her. Different things will snap her out of it, but those things always change. One day it could be doing the Spongebob Squarepants Dance (which…

5th Annual Bark in the Park!!!!

Saturday, Oct. 13th is the 5th annual Bark in the Park at Heritage Dog Park in Chattanooga, TN!! I absolutely LOVE this event! It's such great fun. You get to meet a lot of new people with the same minds AND it's great socializing for the dogs! Fun activities and great vendors, it's just plain fun!

Quoted from their event page:
"Bring your dog in costume and join our "Spooky Pooch" parade at the annual Bark in the Park, the premier event for dogs and dog lovers. This free event includes an adoption fair, rabies clinic, vendor market, "Dogs at Work" demos, face painting, a "Pet PAWlour", contests, great food, live music and a real fire engine. Bring a dog food contribution for our many participating rescue groups. Proceeds will be used to provide paved wheelchair paths at Heritage Dog Park. Presented by Friends of East Brainerd, Chattanooga Parks and Recreation, Brewer Media and The Ark."

To make it even better?! Three. Yes, three! of…

Hamilton County Fair

This weekend was the Hamilton County Fair. It rained a big majority of the day on Saturday, but luckily the weather was cooperative on Sunday. We didn't make it there till later in the day (only open 10-6), but I think the 2 hours we spent was plenty. :-)
