Easter Egg Hunt

The day before Easter this year, our office and Church collaborated to put on an Easter Egg Hunt for the community. Our Church usually has an Easter Egg Hunt on their property but this year they thought that maybe they could reach more people if we had Hunts scattered throughout the county, hosted by neighborhoods or businesses and funded by the Church. I think it worked.

The Church printed up the invitations, provided the eggs and the candy for the grab bags. All we (the office or anyone else that wanted to host) had to do was tell the Church where the Hunt was going to be (so they could have it on the invitations), how many eggs we thought we roughly needed and how many invitations and of course we had to find a place to even HAVE the Easter Egg Hunt.

It didn't start out smoothly at first b/c finding a place to DO the Hunt proved to be a little difficult. Kathleen called several different places and either never got a return phone call or people would change their mind at the last minute. We were trying to do it in a specific area b/c the other town (literally across the river) usually holds THEIR Easter Egg Hunt the day before Easter and we didn't want to take anything away from their shindig but it all worked out in the end.

How you say?

Well, said town wasn't going to be able to even HAVE their Easter Egg hunt b/c of a lack of preparation (I think they had a new person on board or something.....regardless, the hunt wasn't going to happen). As luck would have it, WE needed a place to hold it and THEY still wanted to have the annual hunt, so they were ecstatic that we were offering to do it. Biggest plus? That meant the town could use the funds usually set aside for the Hunt on other things! (It's a SMALL town LOL).

The Church suggested that we have fun activities planned throughout the day. So we had a coloring station with cutout rabbits and cottonballs for their tails and cut out egg shapes, along with markers and crayons. We had a face painting station, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, bubbles and balloon animals. We also had nachos and cheese and water for everyone.

Everything was free too!

We recruited kids from the local school to help us out setting up, man some of the activity centers and keep stuff stocked. It was a win for both of us (office/kids) b/c they were trying to raise money for a class trip so this is how they "paid" for it.

We had a REALLY great turnout! I spent the entire time smashed against my brother-in-laws truck making balloon animals. For HOURS I might add (yeah, my arms were pretty sore by the end of the day LOL). Kathleen started out at the registration table getting name tags written and then she started getting swamped and Leslie had to help her. Then *I* was getting swamped, so Kathleen came to make balloon animals but had to leave soon to start the Easter Egg Hunt. Leslie came to help me a few times too but she was running all over the place making sure all the activities were running smoothly.

For the most part, the Hunt was a success. There were a few complaints that the Hunts didn't start at the scheduled time (we'd allowed so many minutes for each hunt but found we gave TOO much time) but other than that, people seemed pleased.

We're doing it again next year but we plan on having a LOT more adults to help us (hopefully the office will be bigger then too). We'll probably have the same activities we did this year with maybe a few more sprinkled in. We'll also change the times allotted for each Hunt to make it run more smoothly.

Even with the few hitches, I don't think we did too shabby with our first Easter Egg Hunt and you'll see too in the pictures. :-)



We had a GIANT field to work with, which was perfect. We were able to split up pretty good spaces to accommodate each age group.

Sadly, it was pretty flat which is good for the younger ages but not so difficult for the older kids. Kathleen deliberately roped off an area with bushes/trees for the older kids so they really DID have to hunt, whereas the younger kids didn't have to look up.



As mentioned above, we had different roped off sections for the age groups. We had a 0-3 years, a 4-6 years and 7-12 years section.

 



We had our registration table set up right at the front where people filled out name tags for their kids. We started out with 350 name tags and QUICKLY ran out! The Hunt hadn't even started before we ran out of name tags! How awesome is that! The black "basket" on the right was for any eggs that weren't wanted.


We had this covered area for the crafts and food and it came in handy when it started drizzling but luckily it didn't stop anyone from showing up!


We had a GREAT turnout with so many kids running all over the place, having a blast! We were blessed to be able to put this on for the community!

It was a really fun, if not slightly exhausting day. The turnout was great. People had fun. And we're looking forward to doing it again next year!

    1. Oh it was a BLAST! It was tiresome, especially blowing up balloons for several hours, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat! It was so fun doing this for the community. :-)
