Anniversary Trip ~ Day 2 Part III: Travelling to Gatinlinburg/Pigeon Forge - Elk and Hotel

After tubing and sight-seeing in Helen, it was time to part company with McKayla and the rest of the family. McKayla was going back with Aunt and Uncle, who would then send her off to church camp that weekend and we were off to spend our anniversary where we spent our honeymoon: Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
Day 2 Wednesday, July 5th Traveling to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge
Our trip was uneventful, traveling through areas we hadn't been through before on beautiful winding, twisting country roads. The highlight tho, was driving by Mountain Farm Museum and seeing Elk grazing in the field close to the road.

The one closer to the road had been laying down when we pulled up, calmly grazing as countless cars pulled over to take pictures. (The above pictures aren't in order but wanted to show the beautiful sight and then the close ups)

I was pretty thrilled, having never seen Elk IRL before and could've stayed hours just watching them graze but John reminded me that we did have a hotel to c…

Anniversary Trip ~ Day 2 Part II: Helen, GA - Seeing the Sights

Day 2 Part II: Wednesday, July 5th Helen, GA Helen sights
After spending the morning tubing, we decided we had time to walk to the heart of Helen and see the sights. It's a beautiful, quaint little town full of German style.

It was a bit of a trek from the hotel parking lot to the heart of town and it was hot but it was worth it (after stopping at Wendy's for lunch lol).

I absolutely loved all the architecture and personality of the buildings. So many buildings nowadays are boring cookie-cutter types with no thought put behind them.

Anniversary Trip ~ Day 2: Helen, GA - Tubing

Day 2: Wednesday, July 5th Helen, GA Tubing
"Day 2 had several different "highlights" so I'm breaking those up into 3 parts)
On our 2nd day in Helen, we woke up early, checked out of the hotel, loaded our things in the car and headed to Cool River Tubing for some tubing fun! John and I had been tubing before, years ago and McKayla had gone with her Aunt and Uncle but this was the first time that the 3 of us got to tube together and we'll definitely be going again!
We did find out later that the water was much higher than it had been in the past and wasn't as fun according to the in-laws. Apparently, the lower the better and we did spend much of our time getting stuck and playing leap frog with the others. Still fun but I'd be interested to see what it's like without all the rain we've gotten.
BIL's brother brought his camera and graciously allowed me to use a few of his pics since I didn't bring my camera.

BIL's brother was also awesome e…

Anniversary Trip ~ Day 1: Helen, GA - Fireworks

As I alluded to in my Anniversary Teaser, John and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary earlier this month. We ended up "partying" for about 5 days total. Since I'm so great at blogging (Lol!), I've decided to break up our trip into 5 different posts instead of one gigantic one. Be ready for lots of word vomit and pics (because even tho I may not post a lot, when I DO, I seem to be very chatty lol).
Day 1: Tuesday, July 4th Helen, GA Fireworks
First trip was an added bonus, as we hadn't necessarily planned this but the stars aligned and we had a blast. Long story short; brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces and nephew where meeting a couple of the brother-in-law's brothers in Helen, Ga for their fireworks show and tubing. One of the brothers ended up not being able to make the trip but had already prepaid for the hotel room and wouldn't be able to get his money back. So we just took his room and paid him back. Win-win.
I'd never been to Helen, so I …

Wordless Wednesday ~ Some Assembly Required

Last weekend was McKayla's first Camp experience and she said she had a blast and can't wait to go again next year!
